Serves 3 People
INGREDIENTS:
1 sliced Rio Maior bread;
80cl of Milk;
200g of Sugar;
1 Cinnamon Stick;
3 Eggs;
1 Lemon Zest;
Sugar to taste;
Cinnamon to taste.
For the Syrup:
50cl of Red Wine;
5cl of Port Wine;
1 Cinnamon Stick;
1 Star Anise.
PREPARATION:
1. In a saucepan, heat the milk, cinnamon stick, lemon zest, and sugar. Let it warm up, but do not let it boil;
2. In another saucepan, combine all the ingredients for the syrup and let it simmer until slightly thickened;
3. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Preheat the oven to 180º for a few minutes;
4. Turn off the heat, dip the slices of Pão de Rio Maior in the milk and let them drain;
5. Beat the eggs, dip the slices in the eggs, and place them on the baking tray;
6. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon and bake for 15 minutes at 180º. Flip the slices, drizzle with the Port Wine Syrup, and bake for another 15 minutes at 180º;
7. Remove from the oven and serve with additional sugar and cinnamon.
